La Crosse 2nd Branch Disbanded

Well, the deed was done today: the stake presidency decided to merge the two La Crosse/Onalaska congregations. The "La Crosse 2nd Branch" was disbanded, the people merged into the "La Crosse 1st Ward", and then the "La Crosse 1st Ward" was renamed the "La Crosse Ward".

So life in La Crosse would be very different at church if we were staying. I think overall it will be a very good thing, for many reasons.

(Cue the jokes about the branch not being able to function without the Coltons... ;-) )

Comments:
John & Alison told us there was a combined meeting scheduled for today, so we were quite certain this is what would happen (well, we suspected it a while ago). I too, think it will be a good thing and hopefully make things a bit less stressful. So did they just release the branch pres. and keep the bishopric from the Ward?

Also, how are the moving plans going? When are you guys heading out to Happy Valley? Good luck with everything!

They released the branch presidency and the bishopric as well, then called a new bishopric. (Bishop Knapmiller had been in place for about 6 years, so it was time.) The new bishop is Br. Sorenson from the ward, with Matt Baker and Jacque Durnford as his counselors.

They released, then re-installed Rod Griffeth as EQ Pres for the ward, with Patrick Boone as his counselor (the other to-be-counselor was apparently out of town). They called Br Peak from the ward to be HP Group Leader, with Br Pinnell and Br Cleverly as counselors (you probably just missed Cleverlys; they were fairly new in the branch). Whew. Obviously a lot more needs to be reorganized, but that was all they did today.

Actually the funny part was when Pres. Spackman said, "And since the branch no longer exists, we release all branch members from their callings." Wow--I had never seen a mass releasing before.

The moving plans are coming together--all except the part where we sell this house. Somehow that hasn't clicked yet. :-(. We will take off in just over two weeks though. Pauline will drive out on Aug 14, and I will follow on Aug 15. (I'll be driving a U-Haul with my laboratory equipment.)

The Coltons! Notice how they waited until the Ebberts left to break up the branch!

I'm kidding of course and I think it will be better for everyone to be combined.

Good luck selling your house!
