Grand Canyon Trip pictures, part 1

Summer is just about over, school starts tomorrow (BYU), and I still haven't posted any pictures from our Grand Canyon Trip two and a half months ago. I decided it's time to remedy that.

We started our epic journey by driving to Kanab, Utah on Monday, June 6--the day before Pauline's 40th birthday. We stopped by a number of cemetaries (7?) along the way where various ancestors were buried. Snapped pictures and got GPS coordinates of headstones for family history information. On June 7, we drove from Kanab to the Grand Canyon North Rim, and celebrated Pauline's birthday by camping. (OK, we had a nice dinner at the Lodge, too. But that came later.)

We hiked from the campground to the Lodge; I think this was an overlook just behind the Lodge.

Pauline was jealous of this individual, but we didn't bring her painting supplies.

We then did a short hike from the Lodge going to Bright Angel Point.

We decided to do the driving tour of the Walhalla Plateau, just east of the North Rim campground & lodge. Along the road there are various overlooks and hikes. I believe these particular shots were taken from the highest overlook, Point Imperial. Notice how we are looking down on the South Rim plateau.

What a good looking family!

I think this was Roosevelt Point, one of the few places on the entire North Rim where we could actually see the Colorado River.

This is Cape Royal, the farthest point along the Walhalla Plateau. It was a 30 minute hike or so from the parking area to the overlooks.

Still at Cape Royal, that's "Angel's Window". Yes, we hiked to where you can see the people. A little nerve-wracking!

Leslie and I took a less-traveled hike from Cape Royal to a natural spring: the "Cliff Spring Trail". The spring wasn't as cool as we had hoped, but the hike there was neat.

Comments:
Nice pictures. They are causing me to feel wanderlust again.

Also, the kids look so old while you and Pauline look younger to me. How did you pull that one off?

We are secretly stealing their life force at night.
